Temecula Wine Country Tourism Marketing District Assessment (TWCTMD)

Established November 2016, the TWCTMD is an assessment on overnight room stays in hotels/motels/short term rental units within the district and is designed to provide specific benefits directly to payers by increasing room night sales. Revenue derived from the assessment will go toward marketing and sales promotions in an effort to increase tourism.  The assessment rate is “2%” of gross short-term room rental revenue and is collected by the County Treasurer-Tax Collector on a quarterly basis.  All lodging establishments providing overnight room stays for less than 30 consecutive days within the unincorporated wine country area are subject to the assessment, unless otherwise specifically exempted.

The assessment is on the hotel/motel/ short term rental unit as defined by the resolution, however the charges can be passed on to transients as long as it is separately stated on any bills or receipts.  New or unregistered lodging establishments are required to register with the County Treasurer-Tax Collector in order to fulfill the obligations of the resolution.  TWCTMD Quarterly billing statements can be found here.  Stays for more than 30 consecutive days and certain employees of  foreign governments are exempt from paying the assessment, but must present satisfactory credentials and file for the exemption.
